Flying Changes Riding School actively participates in a vibrant schedule of horse shows throughout the spring and summer months. We journey to top equestrian events across the region, from Courtenay to Saanich, as well as major venues like Thunderbird Show Park and Milner Downs. For the convenience of our riders, we provide trailering services to and from these competitions.   • Answer: We carefully select shows that cater to different skill levels and interests. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned competitor, we can guide you in choosing the best events that match your current skills and goals.

Answer: The costs associated with participating in horse shows can differ based on the show’s location and level. Typically, expenses include entry fees, trailering fees, coaching fees, and occasionally, stabling fees. Depending on the venue, such as shows on grass, horseshoes with stud holes may be required.

Answer: To sign up for horse shows, please contact Gina Kararrigas or your coach and express your interest in attending an event. From there, we will help you select the appropriate classes to enter and determine if schooling rounds are necessary. We handle all the details, including entries and logistics, to ensure you’re fully prepared for the competition.

Answer: Horse shows are thrilling events that require good preparation and an early start. Make sure to arrive at the barn early enough to feed your horse if needed, ensure they are clean, and have their necessary grain and supplements for the show. Once at the event, allocate ample time to familiarize yourself with the course, walk the course, and adequately warm up your horse before competing. After your events, it’s important to manage the post-competition tasks: head back to the barn to ensure your horse is safely unloaded, all tack and equipment are put away properly, the trailer is cleaned, and your horse is fed if needed. Our team will be there to support you throughout the day,

Answer: Absolutely! We encourage you to bring along supporters. Horse shows are not only a competition but also a vibrant social event. Many of our competitions throughout the year include opportunities to camp as a barn on the show grounds. This creates a fantastic atmosphere to connect with and cheer on fellow barn mates, making the entire experience even more enjoyable for everyone involved. Invite friends and family to join in the fun and experience the community spirit of our equestrian team.

Before the show:

  •  Confirm registration and event details.
  • Pre-pack all required documentation (registration, Horse Council, etc).
  • Check trailering times and what time to be at the barn

To Do:

  • Clean all tack and equipment.
  • Groom your horse thoroughly, including bathing, trimming the bridle path and fetlocks, and pulling the mane if needed.
  • Prepare your horse’s grain and supplements for multi-day shows.

Equipment:

  • Saddle and bridle
  • Grooming kit
  • Horse boots/wraps for protection
  • Helmet and riding attire (show jacket, breeches, boots, gloves)

Care Supplies:

  • Feed and hay 
  • Water buckets
  • Horse blanket/sheet depending on weather

Flying Changes Fall Schooling Show

Come be a part of the Flying Changes Fall Schooling Show! It’s a great chance for riders and horses to gain experience while having fun. Schooling rounds are set for October 19th, followed by the show on October 20th. We look forward to seeing you there!
